ROING, Apr 9: Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Secretary Tomi Ete on his three days visit to Roing took part in the ongoing “Youth to the Edge” adventure programme as a boost to the organizer and participants.
He spent his last two days in the adventure camp with the students and organizers since his visit on Thursday.
Thirty students from Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga, Bihar including five students from different colleges in North East are participating in the adventure camp.
The pilot project ‘Youth to the Edge’ was flagged of by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Pawan Singh Ghatowar on March 1 at Tinsukia, Assam.
Tine Mena, first women Everester from North East and local host to the adventure programme said, “We are so grateful and excited to have Ete with us. His participation in the camp has renewed our enthusiasm and energy.”
Mena has been hosting the local adventure programme for past one month. Three batches of college students have so far participated in the camp. The scheme is launched by DoNER ministry to promote adventure activities in North Eastern region with the motto ‘Adventure to the Paradise Unexplored’ to promote adventure activities in the remote areas of North Eastern region.
The eight days programme for the current batch of students underwent various activities like rappelling, jumering, rock climbing and cultural interaction with local people.
“We did what we never did before,” said Priya Jha, one of the participants as she expressed her excitement after she rappelled down a 15 meter cliff. “I just closed my eyes, prayed to god, and came rappelling down.”
SBF, AdiSu demand cancellation of proposed public hearing
ITANAGAR, Apr 9: Siang Bachao Federation (SBF) has demanded cancellation of the proposed Public Hearing on hydro project at Jeying, Rottung and Gumin Kine in Siang Valley from April 17 to 20.
The SBF in a release today said that the people were not taken into confidence and they are still not aware of the advantage and disadvantage on hydro projects including 2700 MW Lower Siang. Moreover, Aalo Township which falls under submergence zone has not been reflected in the cadastral survey, it said.
The university and college students who are considered as future of the state will not able to participate in the proposed public hearing as the dates of the hearing might clash with university examinations, the Federation said.
Apart from students, all the farmers and dam affected people will not able to take part in it as they are now busy in agricultural activities. Moreover, April being a rainy month, might create communication problem for the people who are supposed to participate in such public hearing, the Federation added.
Meanwhile, Adi Students Union (AdiSU), the apex body of the Adi community said that large number of college and university students and faculty members, who are originally belong to dam affected area will be deprived of their right to participate in public hearing as the dates of the proposed public hearing clash with the examination schedule.
The union demanded cancellation of proposed public hearing and threatens of launch democratic protest in case of failure of the authority to pay heed to its demand.
Questioning over the selection of venues for public hearing at Jeying and Rottung which are inaccessible for majority of poor villagers due to poor road communication, the union further demanded that all the project related documents be made public in local languages and English.
Sona on infrastructure inspection spree
SEPPA/BHALUKPONG, Apr 9: Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism, Pasang D Sona is on a whirlwind tour to inspect the tourism infrastructure in the state and review its status.
Accompanied by Tourism Secretary Chombay and engineers, the young Parliamentary Secretary took stock of all the infrastructures of the Tourism department from Bhalukpong to Seppa.
The accompanying executive engineer and other engineers and the contractors briefed the status of the upcoming tourist lodge on the banks of river Kameng in Bhalukpong, which was conceptualized to target the anglers and rafters. The Parliamentary Secretary urged upon the engineers and the contractors not to compromise with the quality of works.
Tourism Secretary advised that the target date of completion must be adhered to and there should be no delay in submission of utilization certificates to the funding agency.

AEKSU demands action against officers
ITANAGAR, Apr 9: All East Kameng Students’ Union (AEKSU) has lodged a complaint against the then Executive Engineer of PHED, Seppa alleging him of misuse of his official power and involvement in misappropriation of fund under Rs 9.18 crore Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Seppa.

Disapproving the statement of the EE, the Union said that the said WTP is yet to take complete shape. Alleging total violation of DPR and misuse of fund, the Union said that PHED Seppa had produced a complete picture of the WTP and distribution of water through tank. But in reality, maximum works of the plant are incomplete and whatever works done are now laying in deplorable condition.
The Union further alleged that the PHED Seppa is now supplying contaminated water without proper treatment and without commissioning of the Plant. It demanded that the all the erring officers allegedly involved in WTP scandal be booked immediately under Anti Corruption Act.
The AEKSU further claimed that the enquiry committee constituted by the administration had visited the WTP project on April 3 for spot verification.
It is worth mentioning here that following the complaint lodged by the AEKSU, the district administration had constituted an enquiry committee to investigate into the alleged failure in executing Rs 9.18 crore WTP and its factual position at Seppa.

BVDS said that construction of so many projects would convert the religious township into a house of tunnel.
It urged the authority concerned to treat the voices of people and take up alternatives for the betterment of the local people instead of destroying the beautiful landscape, virgin flora and fauna by proposing so many projects.

The First Lady shared inspiring personal examples motivating the students to complete their studies. She also asked the girls student to stay grounded and close to their cultures. She advised them remain rooted to the culture of love and respect. At the same time we must stand against some evil practices in the society, like dowry. If we do not, then who will do this for us, she emphasized.
Singh also appealed to the parents and guardians to take care of the children stating that the children are our future and they depend entirely on the support and love they receive from us. Our children are vulnerable. And their needs and concerns require our particular attention. A former teacher herself, she also dwelt in length on the importance of the teaching community.
Singh gave away prizes to the winners of the Sakshi Girls Education Project.
Sakshi girls and teachers presented an entertaining and informative performance including group songs on moral values and importance of Girls' Education.

APFA announces probables for Santosh Trophy
ITANAGAR, Apr 9: Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) announced 27 probables for the 66th Santosh Trophy National Football Championship to be held at Cuttack, Odisha from May 11 to 25.
APFA is conducting a coaching cum selection trial for the probables under the guidance of NIS trained coach Kipa Bharat at RG Stadium, Naharlagun from April 16.

ITANAGAR, Apr 9: One month river rafting program organized by the East Kameng district administration in association with Sikkim Association of Adventure Tour Operator (SAATO) successfully ended today. Certificates for completion of successful river rafting program were given to the 20 trainees who were a part of the program.
Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism PD Sona and Secretary Tourism Sonam Chombay graced the valedictory function.
In his address Sona appreciated the district administration for organizing such event as it helps the promotion of tourism in the area. He said there is no dearth of beauty in East Kameng district and with proper guidance; tourism can reach its zenith in the region which will not only bring employment in the area but also bring Seppa in limelight for the right reasons.
Secretary Tourism, Chombay further extended his support and promised to organize an advance river rafting course for the trainees. He said, people of Seppa can help tourism to grow by ensuring that proper hygiene and hospitality is maintained in the region which will encourage people to visit Seppa. He hoped that with due course of the time other such kind of programs can be initiated in the other the districts of Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR, Apr 9: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) Arunachal unit today observed its 41st foundation day at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Itanagar. Chief Minister Nabam Tuki who is also president of Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee graced the occasion. Older citizens need adequate attention
According to WHO, in the middle of the last century there were 14 million people in the world aged 80 years or older. However, by 2050, there will be almost 400 million people in this age group – with 100 million of them in China alone. Within the next five years, for the first time in history, the population of people aged 65 and older will outnumber children under the age of five.

Changlang town is in chaos as there is no electricity, mobile network and water supply since the last two weeks.
At present Changlang telephone exchange is being maintained by the contingency staff as there are no regular staffs.
Yes, entire telephone exchange is being run and managed by the one worker but he is also on leave since the last two months.
The General Manager BSNL Itanagar has to answer to the public of Changlang District HQ.
GM and SDO (T) Miao has to take up matter immediately otherwise public has limited tolerance power.
Therefore, GM, BSNL, Itanagar is requested to look into the matter personally for the larger interest of the people of Changlang.
Secondly there is no water supply due to drying up of main sources; everyone is seen carrying water on their bikes and Tata mobiles.
Only after the intervention of the almighty who has poured heavy rains, has we been relieved.
Thirdly, power supply is another problem for the people of Changlang town. All personal Invertors are out of order due to continuous break down of electricity supply.
The PHED and Power departments are trying their best to tackle the problems. However more attention is needed.

I would like to convey my heartiest thanks to all the volunteers for participating and supporting the cleanliness drive which we conducted on 7th of April at Naharlagun.
I appreciate the noble thoughts of the younger generation and their concern for the state.
When I along with my friend Kobyum Zirdo started planning to carry out cleanliness drive in capital complex months ago we did not anticipated that so many people will come and join us.
I am really indebted to all volunteers who could spare their valuable time and be with us.
I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the officials of UD department for providing us with all the required equipment and vehicles.
My special thanks to the team of EPS Tawang and Naharlagun Bazaar Welfare Committee for all the support.

Act fast before it’s too late
Dear Editor,
Mopin festival of the Galos is celebrated with lots of joy and pomp all over the Arunachal Pradesh by the people of state.
But the people of the same community are facing most crucial situation & grief because of destruction on April 5 at Likabali inflicted by the Assam authorities.
Enough is enough. How long will the people of Arunachal tolerate such types of situations?
Half of Likabali Town is already occupied illegally by the Assam police. If we do not act fast, the entire town will be completely under the control of Assam Govt.
I strongly feel that State Govt. must send strong police force to the boundary affected area and establish Police stations at the boundary area.
It should also immediately seek intervention of the centre and dialogue with Assam Govt is also very necessary for peaceful and lasting solution to the boundary problem.
We are duty bound to protect out land and we have to protect it all costs.

Respond to the allegations
Dear Editor,
It is in response to the repeated allegations of nepotism and favoritism in the recruitment process of various posts in premier Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU).
Authorities of RGU have been charged of serious misadventures and lack of clarification on the part of concerned authorities is compelling general public to raise their eyebrow.
If the allegations were to be true, it would really be a very serious blow on the morale of talented and honest unemployed youths of our state.
Without being judgmental, I appeal to the concerned recruitment board to clear the smoke and restore the faith of the common mass. And if there had been some discrepancies, correct it, before it gets too late.
